CONSTRUCTION SKILLS, INC. WELCOMES NICOLE A. BERTRÁN AS VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAM SERVICES

Nicole A. Bertrán, Vice President of Program Services, is the newest addition to The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, Inc. (Construction Skills). In this capacity, Ms. Bertrán oversees program operations and the development and implementation of strategic initiatives for the union construction industry’s pre-apprenticeship training program. Her commitment to creating opportunities for minorities and women through workforce and economic development initiatives will allow her to ensure that Construction Skills continues to thrive.

Ms. Bertrán earned her bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College and currently is pursuing a master’s degree in Industrial & Labor Relations at Cornell University. In addition, she is a graduate of The United Way of New York City Junior Fellows Emerging Leaders Program and the New York City Leadership Institute, and is a recipient of the New York City Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship.

Prior to joining Construction Skills, Ms. Bertrán served as the Director of Enforcement for the Division of Economic & Financial Opportunity at the New York City Department of Small Business Services where she worked closely with City Hall and other stakeholders to implement public policy initiatives set forth by the Mayor’s Commission on Construction Opportunity. As Director, she designed a monitoring and compliance program to ensure that construction contractors recruit and retain a workforce reflective of the diversity of New York City.

Ms. Bertrán began her career in the nonprofit sector where she served as Director of Training at Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW), the nation’s oldest tradeswomen organization of its kind. Ms. Bertrán was a member of a small strategic planning team that helped to define the organization’s five-year program goals. During her tenure, NEW was recognized locally and nationally for its innovative workforce development programming, receiving a myriad of accolades including The Foundation Award from the Center for Architecture Foundation, the New York City Neighborhood Achievement Award and the coveted Exemplary Public Interest Contribution Award from the United States Department of Labor.

Ms. Bertrán’s nonprofit management and advocacy experience has benefited the previous populations she has served and we are certain she will bring that same energy and motivation to Construction Skills’ mission.
