PLACEMENT PROGRAM HAS RECORD SUCCESS RATES

As our program continues its rapid growth, one of the best indicators of our success is our referral record. 83% of those placed by Construction Skills into union apprenticeship programs remain actively employed in the trades, with many now working as journeypersons. This record means our efforts have moved beyond equal opportunity to achieve better success rates for the populations we serve than those entering the industry through traditional means.

With our incredible retention rate, Construction Skills’ efforts in reaching out to high school students and residents of the New York Housing Authority (NYCHA) have proven to be of substantial value. Endeavors such as our Building Trades Career Fair and liaisons with school representatives have allowed us to reach our targeted audience. The valuable pre-apprenticeship courses Construction Skills provides has produced real results – long-term employment rates superior to the industry average.

Not only are individuals in Construction Skills enjoying lasting placement in construction industry jobs, the position themselves provide superior benefits. Consider the following:
  • Employees of union contractors earn an average of $11 more per hour in wages than those employed by non-union contractors.
  • 47% more employees of union contractors have job-sponsored health insurance than those employed by non-union contractors.
  • 51% more have job-sponsored pension plans.
